Paying Your Rent

Can I get help to pay my rent?

If you are on a low income or you receive Department of Work and Pension (DWP) benefits, you may be entitled to help with your rent by claiming Housing Benefit. It is always worth checking this with your House Manager even if you think that you will not be able to claim.
You must make a claim for Housing Benefit and any other DWP benefits when you sign your Tenancy or Licence Agreement. You will be required to provide documentation including proof of any income or savings you may have.
If you receive Housing Benefit it is also necessary to renew the claim periodically. Your House Manager will help you to complete the paperwork and chase up benefits.
Some residents on certain benefits will not be entitled to the maximum Housing Benefit and will have to make a contribution from their income.
